The homeowners wanted to modernise an outhouse that was formerly used as a barn, utilising the space to expand the useable space on the property. Slim framed aluminium systems were chosen to combine modern and traditional elements, working in contrast with the traditional wooden features.

The pitched roof structure provides high ceilings inside the space, which is enhanced further by the influx of natural light that has been gained through the glazing. The high glass to frame ratio on our aluminium systems provides paths of free flowing natural light throughout the day, increasing the perceived size of the space.
Aluminium doors in timber frames were designed to create a contrast, combining timber and metal for a unique approach to the barn conversion. This achieves a traditional design without compromising on modern performance values.
The dedicated South West regional team managed this project from start to finish, overseeing the refurbishment process and installation of the glazing. Sieger aluminium windows and doors were chosen, due to their minimal framed design and thermally insulating properties.
On one elevation inside the converted barn, a Sieger Lux Bifold Door was specified in a three pane configuration, with additional fixed glazing creating a double height effect. When the bifolding doors are open, they reveal a completely open aperture and allow indoor and outdoor areas to be merged for an indoor-outdoor style of living.
The Sieger Lux Bifold is the slimmest aluminium bifolding door on the market, with exceptionally slim sightlines from just 74mm. The aluminium doors in timber frames were carefully designed to sit within the timber frames, maintaining a rustic design with the use of exposed timber but pairing it with modern glazing systems.
Elsewhere in the main living space, Sieger casement windows were specified to create a uniform effect with the double casement doors, which are also from the Sieger range. The casement doors grant access to an outdoor courtyard, whilst maintaining the minimal design.
All the glazing systems were finished in the same grey RAL colour for a cohesive finish on every elevation, following the same minimal glass design. Again aluminium doors in timber frames were designed to create a coherent design with the window and casement doors, adding warmth and using warn wood tones to contrast the black aluminium profiles.
The warm wood tones used for the internal beams can be seen on the external face of the barn conversion too, creating a border around the aluminium glazing systems. The combination of mood and metal work in harmony for a unique exterior design, retaining the original character of the barn conversion whilst adding modern elements.
