Modern barn conversion benefits from oversized glazing

This barn conversion underwent a vast transformation, with the objective of seamlessly merging old and new elements. Using large elevations of frameless and slim framed glazing, modern luxury enhances the original charm of the converted barn.

Frameless picture windows were installed along multiple elevations of the build, introducing tones of natural light into the internal living spaces whilst granting uninterrupted views of the surrounding nature. The large panes of frameless glass work in contrast to the original brick structure, without detracting from the historic external design.

Connected to the main house and accessible by an underground walkway, the kitchen sits to the north of the property. This allows the family to expand their useable space in the main house, whilst creating a brightly lit, modern kitchen design.

A large rooflight was specified for the underground walkway, helping to keep the space bright during the daytime. Walk on rooflights were specified throughout the underground kitchen design, letting natural light into an otherwise dark space.

To merge indoor and outdoor areas, minimal windows sliding doors were specified. The home utilised a pocked door configuration, with the ability to slide the glass door into a hidden wall cavity to reveal a completely open aperture. Granting step free garden access thanks to the flush threshold, the minimally framed sliding systems merge the kitchen and courtyard for an indoor-outdoor style of living.

The floor finish continues from inside the kitchen to outside on the terraced area, bringing a feeling of continuity with it. This courtyard design allows panoramic views of the surrounding landscaped gardens, tennis court and pond area.

Elsewhere on the property, multiple sets of slim framed sliding glass doors were installed, with one set of these premium systems reaching an impressive 4 metres tall. Due to the advanced engineering of the minimal windows systems, large sizes can be achieved without compromising on minimal design or high thermal performances.
