Gringley Hall

Glass extension for Nottingham home renovation

This home in Nottingham was renovated to include a glass extension at the rear of the house, extending into the garden space to create more useable space and forge a better connection to the outdoor environment.

The glass extension in Nottingham uses slim framed sliding glass doors, wrapping around the building in a corner opening configuration that allows the doors to be slid away from the corner junction to reveal a completely open aperture. The homeowners opted for automated sliding doors within the zinc clad extension, enhancing the functionality of the oversized panes.

Our dedicated Midlands glazing division designed and installed the glazing package for Gringley Hall, tailoring the glazing solutions to suit the glass extension in Nottingham. The aluminium profiles of the automated sliding pocket doors have been specified in a dark grey, to contrast the oversized glass whilst maintaining a theme with the zinc cladding.

The automated sliding doors have been designed as sliding glass pocket doors, sliding invisibly into hidden wall cavities for a seamless transition between indoors and out. The glass extension in Nottingham has been designed to make the most of the surrounding garden and pocket door configurations, where space allows, are perfect for achieving this indoor-outdoor style of living.

The minimal sliding doors are complete with a flush threshold detail for step free access, with the space forming one large living space when the doors are open. Elsewhere on the glass extension, a frameless rooflight was designed to bring even more natural light into the space, using frameless structural glass for the most minimal design.

The zinc clad roof has been designed with a slight overhang, providing solar shading to the glazing below without disrupting the wider design. Using the same style of brick for the extension, in the same colour, meaning the old and new elements merged into one.
