Foxwood House, St. George’s Hill

A Contemporary Pavilion with Slim Sliding Doors in St. Georges Hill

Foxwood House is a substantial family residence set within the highly exclusive St. George’s Hill estate in Weybridge. Surrounded by one acre of landscaped gardens, woodland edges and long private driveways, the property combines traditional architectural massing with a series of contemporary interventions. As part of a wider programme of works delivered by Mountwood Construction and Blue Sky CAD Architecture, IQ Glass was appointed to design and install specialist glazing to a modern wing of the home. The centrepiece is a set of slim sliding doors in St. Georges Hill, creating a light filled, garden facing living space that complements the high specification and scale of the property.

Integrating Minimalist Glazing into a Traditional Estate Home

The residence is a large red brick manor house with traditional detailing and a strong sense of symmetry. The challenge for the design team was to introduce a modern wing that could sit comfortably alongside the original architecture without appearing visually disruptive. The extension required a glazing solution that would maximise views across the southwest facing grounds while responding to the refined language of the estate’s architectural heritage.

The developers sought a contemporary living space with an emphasis on openness, natural light and seamless movement between inside and outside. This called for a large format sliding door system with the slimmest possible sightlines, flush thresholds and integrated drainage to maintain a clean architectural finish.

Large Format Slim Sliding Doors to Open the Living Space

IQ Glass installed a three panel ultra slim sliding door system measuring 6.3m wide and 3.1m tall. The system uses 21mm aluminium profiles to establish an almost frameless appearance, giving clear views across the gardens and terraces that surround the property. The scale of the glazing complements the house’s generous proportions while establishing a calm, modern rhythm within the architecture.

A fully flush threshold was installed across the sliding elevation, incorporating an integrated drainage channel with a silver grille. This provides step free access from the living space to the external terraces and prevents water ingress without interrupting the visual line of the floor finish. Slot aeration was incorporated for discreet ventilation without the need for exposed trickle vents.

Enhancing Garden Movement and Light Across the Terrace

To support circulation around the landscaped garden, IQ Glass designed and installed frameless glass balustrades to the external staircases. These balustrades retain the clarity and minimalism of the sliding elevation, ensuring uninterrupted views while providing compliant edge protection. Their frameless detailing reinforces the architectural intent of a contemporary wing set within the wider historic estate environment.

A structural glass floor panel was also added to the external terrace, measuring 5m by 1.2m. This allows natural light to pass through the terrace structure and contributes to the feeling of open space around the property. The combination of structural glass and minimal framing elevates the character of the new wing and strengthens its connection to the garden.

Luxury Residential Living in an Historic Private Estate

St. George’s Hill is one of the most prestigious residential estates in the United Kingdom, known for its discretion, security and architect designed homes set within heavily landscaped grounds. Established in the early twentieth century by master builder W. G. Tarrant, the estate has long been associated with luxury living and privacy. Foxwood House reflects these qualities through its extensive accommodation, indoor leisure complex, landscaped gardens and careful blend of traditional and contemporary design.

The introduction of ultra slim sliding glazing enhances the estate value by providing a modern architectural language within a historically significant setting. The glazing helps articulate a high-end living space that aligns with the expectations of UHNW buyers seeking homes of scale, craftsmanship and detail.
