Chestnut Ridge

Contemporary renovation and refurbishment

In Buckinghamshire, StuarBarr CDR working alongside HollandGreen architects conducted this high specification refurbishment and extension of this outstanding property overlooking the rolling hills of Bucks.

The year-long build realised the true potential of this family home while capitalising on the exceptional views that the homeowners have right on their doorstep.

The large glazing installation and the garden design reflects the surrounding countryside, various levels of raised plant beds and sections of the lawn sweep across the full length of the plot.

Sieger® aluminium windows and doors were installed throughout the home to provide an elegant and polished aesthetic.

These slim framed systems allow light to flow into the living spaces and therefore offer breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape.

To the rear facing bedrooms, double casement doors with two fixed sidelights were fitted in a Juliet balcony configuration.

Frameless glass balustrades were installed to the external facade of the building, outside these double doors, creating a protective barrier that doesn't obstruct the views from within the home.

Frameless glass balustrades were used both internally and externally of the property to offer subtle protection for level changes including open balconies, mezzanine balconies and Juliet balconies. These glass balustrades allow light to continue to flow throughout the home and do not obstruct views at eye level.

To the ground floor open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, minimal windows® were installed to capture the incredible view. The outer frames of this system are hidden within the wall finishes resulting in only the slim vertical sightlines being visible; thus, offering the homeowners uninterrupted views.

This unique home combines traditional exposed wooden beams with exceptional modern glazing systems creating an overall 'wow factor'.

Set within a rural valley, the home is enveloped with large trees, shrubbery continues from the base of the trees through into the garden. The wooden cladding used within the architectural design and wooden beams that surround the raised plant beds help to connect the property with the rural surroundings.
