Bring Outside In Bifolding Doors

Bring Outside In

If you want to open up to 90% of your elevation Aluminium Bifold Doors from IQ Glass offer a modern, high-quality option in our sliding folding doors, suitable for large opening sizes and long elevations of sliding folding glass.

Bi-folding sliding glass doors are a popular option for modern living areas or spaces where the inside and out are to be merged. Slim square framing and a flush floor finish from inside to out are important factors in creating that merging of inside and out.

The meeting frame of IQ’s most popular Aluminium Bi fold Door is only 120mm across when your glass elevation is closed, with each sliding folding leaf available in a width of 1200mm and a maximum height of 3000mm.

There is a wide range of configurations that can be created with our aluminium sliding, folding glass door range to ensure that you get the maximum glass to frame ratio. Our aluminium bifold doors can be inward or outward folding, bi-parting, linear sliding and area available in opening up to 7 bi-folding panels long.

You can also create a flush threshold across the base aluminium frame with the integration of IQ’s flush threshold drainage channel which ensures water runoff from the sliding folding doors is drained away efficiently.

Bifold Door Design

The aluminium framing we use in our doors is fully thermally broken for an insulating glass wall that can open completely, bringing outdoor living spaces to form larger living spaces.

Our bi fold and patio door frames are suitable to hold either a double or triple glazed unit as required to achieve the thermal performance criteria you need on your project with a whole host of additional glass options available from low iron glass to solar control coatings.

Every junction and detail of our sliding folding doors are designed to maintain a modern, square edge finish to the frame and offer one of the slimmest frame junctions available for aluminium bifolding sliding glass doors. IQ Glass will detail and design all fixing and connection details in full as part of our in-house design service.

The modern aluminium framing used in these sliding folding doors can be powder coated any RAL colour to suit every building design.  There is a large range of ironmongery to choose from which is available to view at the Courtyard Showroom and Sky House Design Centre.

For a more traditional bifold door design, bespoke glazing bars can be integrated into the design to recreate a traditional timber or steel framed door system but with a durable, low maintenance finish suitable for all project types and designs.

We also offer a range of internal bifold doors

Technical Information for Bifolding Doors

Configurations

The configurations available for your aluminium sliding folding doors will depend on the size of the opening that you have and the weight of the glass specification required for your project. Triple glazed options will be heavier and therefore smaller sliding folding leaves will be required to carry the weight of the glass efficiently.

In most cases, your aluminium bi-folding door can be made up to 7 leaves sliding in one direction. Larger walls of sliding folding doors can be created with the doors folding in either direction.

Most projects will prefer to have a pass door as part of their installation. By opting for an uneven number of door leaves (3, 5 or 7 pane door) the leading door can be used as a pass door and acts independently from the sliding folding panes, allowing users easy access to the garden or outdoor space.

Aluminium bifold doors can be designed to fold inwardly or outwards depending on your project or construction constraints. A frameless glass balustrade could be installed on upper floor projects, paired with an inward opening bifold door, to create a modern and expansive Juliet balcony design.

Locking and Drainage Bifolding Doors

Locking and Drainage

Aluminium Bi Fold Patio Doors from IQ are tested to PAS:24 security standards for the highest level of security available from opening windows and doors.

These Door installations with a pass door (installations with an uneven number of doors) will be locked and secured by a lever/lever door handle and euro cylinder key lock.

There's a large range of door handles available to choose from, from a timeless stainless steel or silver handle to a cranked black or white handle for a unique appearance. These options are available to view at the Courtyard Showroom and Sky House Design Centre.

Each door leaf can be secured in place at the fold with a discrete lever lock to ensure that the whole elevation of sliding folding doors are locking in place.

Both a rebated base track and a flush threshold base are available depending on the exposure of your bifold doors and the project requirements. If a flush threshold track is required IQ Glass will integrate our flush threshold drainage channel as part of the door design to ensure adequate water drainage.

Commercial Bifold Doors

Commercial Projects

Aluminium bifold doors are often used on a whole host of project types where a good connection between the inside and outside is required.

Aluminium bi-folding doors have unique appeal across all building sectors for their ability to merge internal and external spaces easily as well as creating large expanses of glass that can be effortlessly slid open.

The flush floor finishes available across the base aluminium framework allow these doors to be used in areas of buildings where disabled, step-free access is required.

Aluminium framing is notorious for its ease of maintenance, durability and robust nature and allows us to create walls of sliding folding doors that are lightweight and easy to operate.

These large aspect bi-fold doors are often used in a restaurant or café spaces to open internal dining areas into outdoor dining spaces seamlessly when the weather is warm but are insulating, durable and thermally efficient enough to ensure that internal space is kept comfortable in the colder months or during adverse weather.

Aluminium bi folding doors are a cost effect and commercially efficient option for modern housing developments and will add instant kerb appeal for homeowners. Featured Project

The Grove Hotel and Spa underwent a renovation project to modernise their hospitality suites and conference facilities. The hotel is Grade II* Listed and was once the home of the Earl of Clarendon. Any renovation projects at the Georgian Manor must be in keeping with the original building design to respect the historic nature of the building and grounds.

IQ was involved with the renovation of the Amber Suite and provided the new aluminium framed windows and doors, designed to match the tradition white timber sash windows so popular amongst Georgian architecture.

Aluminium bi-folding doors were used to the large door openings of the Amber Suite which lead out onto the large and picturesque outdoor seating areas which can be utilised by conference attendees.

In keeping with the design requirements for the listed building IQ designed all the aluminium bi-folding doors in a white powder coated finish and integrated horizontal glazing bars into the aluminium door design.

These large openings of aluminium bi-folding doors were expertly mixed with our aluminium casement doors and fixed aluminium windows, all with the same traditional glazing design, to create a cohesive architectural glazing design for the listed building.
