The first five shortlists of the first AJ Architecture Awards were released this week with two projects from IQ Glass being featured.

The compact residential design was built on the site of the former prison vaults in the centre of a conservation area. Coffey Architects used our minimal windows sliding doors to the ground floor living area and master bedroom.

The slim framing of the minimal window doors allow the maximum amount of glass to be used within the small window openings. On a project where every centimetre mattered this meticulous use of architectural glazing was a key element of the design, allowing natural light into the living areas.

This project has already won an awards in the RIBA London Awards 2017 and is shortlisted for the RIBA House of the Year award.

The Warwick Hall Community Centre by Acanthus Clews Architects has been shortlisted in the Heritage Project of the Year category as well as the Community & Faith Project of the Year.

This extension and renovation to a listed church utilises many areas of architectural glazing including frameless structural glass and minimal windows sliding doors.

A structural glass link was used between the listed building and new community centre. The clear and frameless glass structural creates a clear division between what is new and old whilst drawing light into the new stairwell.

The community centre benefits from the seamless sliding action of the minimal windows doors. Used as access to the rear gardens and side passage these architectural glass doors offer a minimal door design that draws the eye out.

Additional glazing elements include structural glass roof glazing and aluminium casement doors. This project has already been recognised by the 2017 RIBA Awards and the 2017 RICS Awards.

Jury visits will take place from 20 September to 13 October and winners will be revealed at Grosvenor House Hotel on 7 December.
