Kevin McCloud selects Rusty House as a notable project

One of our completed projects, Rusty House (also known as Riverside Shed) is featured in the new Grand Designs at 25 book, compiled by Kevin McCloud himself.  This unique riverside home in the South Downs stands out for its modern, industrial aesthetic, and energy-efficient design. The rusted steel facade, combined with large panes of glass, creates a striking visual appeal while allowing for natural light to flood the interiors, blending the indoors with the outdoors seamlessly.

Rusty House, designed by Sandy Rendel Architects, was completed in 2015 and gained recognition for its innovative and amazing use of materials. This contemporary new build was constructed on the banks of the River Ouse, featuring structural glazing that almost surrounds the ground floor to captivate the views from this beautiful riverside location.

IQ designed and installed numerous glazed elements for the property. These modern elements included oversized slim sliding doors and fixed frameless glazing.  The slim frame sliding glass doors were used on both sides of the new build, providing access to the external patio. The structural glass walls were used to create expansive glazed areas, which formed a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.

These systems not only contributed to the home's cutting-edge design but also ensured high levels of energy efficiency and comfort. The combination of glass and rusted steel cladding made the Rusty House a striking example of modern architectural design,

The project was completed in the autumn of 2015 and featured on Series 16 of Channel 4's Grand Designs.
