Two IQ Glass projects, Mill Hill London and Hatcham Park, featured in “Building and Extension: A Beginner’s Guide” written by Homebuilding & Renovating. This guide to building an extension covers many key pieces of information that are vital to know before designing an extension.
Extensions are available in countless designs that architects create to complement or contrast the existing architecture, in response to a brief. Building an extension varies in cost depending on size, finishes, the material the extension is made from and much more. Hatcham Park was used as an example of a simplistic single storey extension that utilised a large aluminium framed window for a beautiful view into the garden and a three track bifolding door that created a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor environments.
The architectural design at Hatcham Park aimed to enlarge the downstairs floor plan of an end terraced house to result in a bigger kitchen-diner. This new contemporary space provides the homeowners with a well-lit, open-plan living space suitable for a growing family.
Mill Hill London, a copper-clad single storey extension, also featured within this guide to extensions. The detached family home in London was transformed by Andris Berzins & Associates/ ArchitectYourHome Camden to create a contemporary living space that juxtaposes the existing architecture. The copper-clad extension is complete with large minimally framed sliding doors and steel framed internal doors from IQ Glass. This combination of glazing creates an impressively light, broken plan interior design.
