In their recent article, Real Homes showcase multiple ways to open up the internal space of a home without breaking the bank. From building a porch space extension to adding an orangery that floods the rear living space with natural light, there are numerous types of extension to suit the individual needs and spatial limitations of any home.
Claremont Road was featured in the article as an example of a side infill extension. This form of single-storey extension takes advantage of previously disused external space, and uses structural glazing to brighten up the home interior.
IQ installed an Invisio Oriel frameless window box as part of the Claremont Square project, creating a cosy window seat looking out onto the garden. This extra detailing was an effective way to make full use of the additional space afforded by the side return extension.
To create a frameless effect, the glass panes were sealed together using structural grade silicone without the need for any supportive framework. Together with the structural glass roof, which was supported by a minimal slim steel T section, the extension maximised the amount of daylight flooding the window seat and dining area behind.
