Martin Top Farm

Architectural Glazing Lancashire Farmhouse

The Martin Top Farm project is a prime example of how architectural glazing can transform a traditional rural property like this Lancashire farmhouse. This architectural glazing Lancashire farmhouse installation combined advanced glazing technology with sensitive design, ensuring that the original charm of the stone-built home was retained while bringing in light, openness, and uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills.

Location

Lancashire

The existing farmhouse in Lancashire is a period property, dating back to 1845 and set within 22 acres of land. The Lancashire farmhouse overlooks the Ribble Vale and Yorkshire Dales with the new glass additions maximising the opportunities for views and natural light from the beautiful surroundings.

Across the north elevation of the farmhouse extension IQ Glass created a full width sliding glass wall, using our slim sliding glass door system to create a floor to ceiling sliding glass elevation. The sliding glass doors have an ultra slim frame and were designed with triple glazing for the highest levels of thermal insulation.

They span the entire length of the living space, with the sliding doors measuring over 12m wide. The bi-parting sliding door configuration allows for central passage to the patio and gardens with a completely flush threshold for ease of movement.

A matching, smaller sliding door installation was used on the south elevation of this architectural glazing Lancashire farmhouse to mirror the rear wall and provide front access that still reinforces the property’s balance of light and space.

Above the kitchen, an Invisio structural rooflight was installed for this architectural glazing Lancashire farmhouse, measuring 4,000mm by 2,500mm and weighing 500kg. With a 3.4-degree fall, this feature ensures that the farmhouse’s central spaces are filled with natural daylight. The rooflight became a focal point of the architectural glazing to the Lancashire farmhouse scheme, transforming the kitchen into a bright and welcoming hub.

To complement the high impact minimal glazing, various slim framed aluminium casement windows were also provided by IQ Glass. The slim aluminium frames were designed as top-hung windows and were finished in RAL 7037, which was chosen to complement the sandy stone exterior. These sympathetic details ensured the architectural glazing of the Lancashire farmhouse project respected the property’s heritage character while introducing a modern aesthetic.

Installation for this architectural glazing Lancashire farmhouse required precise planning. With the slim sliding glass doors and the rooflight each weighing nearly half a tonne, the project team partnered with a local crane company. The structural rooflight was lifted over the farmhouse, while the sliding systems were carefully craned around the side. Despite the scale and weight of the units, the installation progressed smoothly and efficiently.

The completed architectural glazing Lancashire farmhouse project demonstrates how high-performance glazing can elevate traditional architecture. By integrating slim framed glazing and structural solutions, Martin Top Farm now benefits from a home that is both rooted in its rural setting and connected to modern living.
