Light, Humidity and Environmental Control
The indoor leisure complex required glazing that could perform to an unusually high standard. The internal pool creates a humid environment where standard glazing would quickly attract condensation, obscuring views and creating discomfort for users. The owners wished for uninterrupted visibility between the pool, the gym and the bar area, meaning that any misting or droplets on the glass would diminish the architectural quality of the space. The pool hall also connects directly to an air-conditioned gym, increasing the likelihood of temperature differentials that would normally result in condensation forming on the glass interface.
The design of Stokes Hall places great emphasis on material refinement. Stone, marble, bespoke joinery and hand-crafted finishes run throughout the building. Any interior glazing needed to feel equally considered, with discreet fixings and a level of transparency that would complement the broader design concept. For the glazed doors and screens that form part of the circulation routes, acoustic performance, safety and durability were also essential.
Heated Glass Screens for Condensation Free Clarity
To ensure uninterrupted views and a comfortable environment around the pool, IQ Glass installed a series of heated glass screens to internal pool zones. These screens use electrically heated toughened laminated glass that prevents condensation by keeping the internal glass surface warm, creating a clear glass screen between the warm pool zone and the adjoining spaces. This avoids the need for bulky ventilation grilles, ensuring that the architecture remains elegant and uncluttered.
The primary screen between the pool and the seating area includes a set of double pivoting glass doors with bespoke pull handles. These doors use stainless steel pivot mechanisms for smooth operation and are engineered to withstand the humid environment. The heated glass coating is laminated between layers of clear toughened glass, ensuring longevity and safety in proximity to the water. The result is a pristine viewing panel that maintains visual connections between activity zones at all times.
Frameless Design for a Contemporary, Minimal Aesthetic
A second glass screen separates the pool from the air-conditioned gym, fitted with an integrated frameless glass pivot door to maintain consistency with the main pool entrance. This screen is positioned behind a timber slatted feature wall, creating a layered visual composition that pairs warm natural materials with contemporary glass. [
Additional glazing includes frameless automated sliding doors to the wine room behind the bar. These were designed to showcase the temperature-controlled cellar while maintaining a seamless connection to the entertainment zone. Frameless glass balustrades were also installed on the steps leading to the pool, allowing light from the water and surrounding areas to circulate freely. Throughout the project, the aim was to reduce visual barriers and preserve the elegant atmosphere that defines Stokes Hall.
