Contemporary rear extension with floating roof

IQ Glass recently completed a contemporary glass extension with a floating roof in Berkshire using a mixture of our glazing; slim framed sliding glass doors, structural glass and frameless roof lights.

The bespoke design , features a cantilevered roof design with our sliding glass doors opening away from a frameless corner beneath, creating the appearance of a floating corner roof design. These doors were so large they were automated with all electrical motors hidden behind the head of the aluminium framing, within the ceiling finishes.

In modern residential architecture , open corners are a great way to enhance the indoor-outdoor living effect. By completely opening up a corner, removing all structural corner posts and walls the internal living spaces easily merge with the outside. This architecture design extends the living spaces even further for the warmer months of the year.

The large elevation of glass takes advantage of the idyllic views around the property, enjoyed by the new open-plan living area which is linked to the existing house with structural glazing.

The aluminium bi fold doors from IQ Glass were used as modern patio doors to part of the existing property. Their slim, profile works well on a smaller opening, maximising the amount of glass on the elevation and increasing light into the hallway.

Within the new rear extension a large open-plan living space was created including a dining area, formal lounge and cinema lounge. Each of the new spaces were carefully filled with naturally light with a large frameless glass roof light within the main glass extension.
