Fixed panes were used alongside sliding doors in a configuration that offers a flush finish at floor level, encouraging ease of use. The design of the rear extension ensures that natural light flows freely through the space, enhancing the available space. Solar shading is incorporated into the building's structure, with the roof of the building creating a lip, expanding beyond the glass walls to offer some shade.
Minimal windows sliding doors were installed in two further places in the home, granting garden access from multiple points whilst maintaining a coherent design throughout the ground floor. As well as offering garden access, the slim framed sliding doors introduce free-flowing paths of natural light to the townhouse, which previously lacked natural light.
In the living room, in line with the sliding doors facing the garden, IQ installed a frameless rooflight to sit above the living area. This ensures the light from the doors bounces beyond the glass doors and into the house, creating a light and airy environment.
Another addition during this renovation was glass shower screens. IQ designed and installed shower screens, most of which were clear, to add practicality without detracting from the design. Some of the glazing elements chosen by the homeowners were sandblasted to offer privacy.
