Frameless structural glass elements to this eco rebuild in Chiswick

The five-bedroom home replaced a bungalow on a suburban street in Chiswick took its form from the neighbouring semi-detached houses.

The final design evolved into an environmentally conscious four storey, timber clad family home. This was conceived through frameless corner windows, enabling sunlight to follow the family’s occupation of the house’s rooms throughout the day.

Chiswick, London

IQ Glass installed fixed structural glass units on the front elevation, creating a bespoke projecting window to tie in with surrounding properties traditional bay windows.

The oriel windows, provide a contemporary seating area integrated into the bay windows. No framing structure was used to support the glass, instead, IQ Glass designed the glass to support itself using structural silicon joints.

On the first floor above the cantilevered porch, an opening casement window offers ventilation to the master bedroom, whilst fixed structural glass corner units wrap around each corner of the property creating a cutout effect in the timber cladding.

The ground floor features a wall of fixed silicone jointed structural glass overlooking a still pond giving a full-length frameless glass window to a place usually known for dark, unlit corridors.

Aluminium Sliding doors installed to the rear of the property enable the internal living spaces to merge effortlessly with the outdoor living space.

The first floor features a contemporary Juliette balcony created with a frameless glass balustrade integrated within the aluminium sliding glass doors. This design enables a large glass elevation to an upper floor whilst still providing the necessary ventilation.
