Architectural Glazing to Contemporary New Build

IQ Glass provided all the specialist architectural glazing solutions to this contemporary new build. Featuring walk on glass floors, frameless balustrades, as well as aluminium windows and doors.

Amongst the period villas and terraces that surround Holland Park in London’s Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, this new build family house arranged over five floors has a strong contemporary appearance, with full width folding glazed doors to the lower two floors, enabling the living spaces to be opened up to the courtyard garden beyond. The upper three floors feature a study animated by glazed bays and balconies to the front and rear with additional views from the oriel bay window to the side.

The ground floor open plan living, dining, and kitchen area are streamlined, running seamlessly through to the garden, through a wall comprised entirely of folding glass doors. As the garden is walled and quite private, this expands the home’s usable areas. When the doors are open on the upper levels, glass balustrades are used to provide safety without limiting daylight and the contemporary design.

On the upper three floors, aluminium bi folding doors and a 2 track sliding glass window have been used across the entire rear elevations. Glass balustrades have been integrated within the opening to create fantastic frameless Juliet balconies.

 

Frameless glass balustrades have been used on the upper level of this home to create a clear yet strong safety barrier for the slim framed sliding windows. Using these glass balustrades has allowed the home owners to enjoy the views of their surroundings and provide ventilation into the upstairs rooms whilst also providing safety.

Above the size leaf bi folding door, is a frameless walk-on glass floor allowing the light to flood through the living spaces. It not only increases the natural light below, it also provides a spatial lightness and floating sensation to the floor above. To one side, the two lower floors extend to just past the upper levels in plan. Full advantage was taken of this slot by opening to the outside with a sky light.
