Little Marlow

Contemporary rear extension with slim sliding doors and aluminium casement window

Lewandowski Architects was commissioned to create a sympathetic modern addition to this traditional property located in Buckinghamshire.

Slim sliding doors were chosen with a bi parting configuration to maximise the aperture once opened with super slim frameless 21mm sightlines once the sliding doors were closed. The rear elevation comprises of two near sliding and two near fixed panes that equate to 8m wide and nearly 3m tall.

The aluminium sliding doors with flush threshold provides seamless transitions to the patio space where the new extension façade continues with subtle brickwork merging the traditional with the modern.

To the side of this rear glazed extension an aluminium casement window was custom made to the same height as the Slim sliding doors to maximise the amount of natural light entering the dwelling from various points, enhancing feelings of wellbeing and comfort.

The high performance glazing installed within this contemporary rear extension is precision engineered with a thermally broken frame allowing high levels of thermal insulation which comply with Building Regulations Part L offering total peace of mind from both an economical and ecology stance.

The outcome is a flexible open plan contemporary extension. The aluminium casement window, Slim sliding doors with Bi parting configuration, flush threshold track detail with seamless transitions to the outdoors further enhances that increased sense of space, connecting the outdoors with the inside seamlessly for the ultimate versatile and welcoming setting.
