Floor to Ceiling Frameless Glass Pivot Door to Renovated Mews Property

Mews properties in London are steeped in history. Once designated stables and coach stations of noble people, these well-appointed, yet notorious houses are highly sought after today. Since the footprint of mews properties are limited to expansion, the challenge calls for inventive architects to create space and light within the existing footprint through considered design, to which would include a garage conversion.

Our Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door was chosen by architect, Trewhela Williams to add to the minimalist design and increase natural light into the property.

Our Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door contributed maximum natural light to the overall project. This warm and minimalistic project has subsequently been shortlisted for AJ Retrofit 2023 Awards house under £500k, plus winner of ‘Don’t move improve’ 2023.

Trewhela Williams was commissioned to convert the garage at this Elizabeth Mews house refurbishing the ground floor and breathing new life into the property enabling its occupants to accommodate the space without the constraints of ‘yester-year’s’ living.

The previous position of the uninsulated garage at the front of the property meant that the cellular rooms to the rear were detached from the street with limited aspect to a small, dilapidated courtyard only. Consequently, the rooms were thermally compromised and suffered from poor daylight levels.

The integration of the former garage into the home reclaimed much needed habitable space and enabled the upgraded garage conversion to thermally efficient construction. The opening of the frontage improves aspect, admits daylight and enables cross-ventilation.

IQ’s Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door helps create a ventilated lightwell between the interior and courtyard with its minimal detailing and clean lines.

The pivot opening mechanism adds a playful element to the scheme through the transition of space. The Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door creates a Japanese-esque “Ma” element; a deliberate pause in time and quiet space.

As well as providing a lightwell and ventilation through to the courtyard, the Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door is thermally broken and completely weather proof with its unique magnetic sealing base detail that rises up from the flush base frame once closed.

The tactile materials and finishes add to this remarkable minimalist and elegant remodelling. Our wide width Floor to ceiling frameless Pivot Door adds a warmth leading the eye towards the rear of the garage conversion, creating a visual impact to this one-of-a-kind project and contributes to the serene ‘Ma’ ambience of this converted and refurbished courtyard house in Elizabeth Mews, Belsize Park.
