MSMR Architects were commissioned to transform a Grade II listed duplex property in the heart of Mayfair into a luxury contemporary residence, carefully balancing historic character with modern architectural detailing. Central to the redesign was the introduction of bespoke steel glazing systems that enhance natural light, define internal spaces and complement the apartment's award-winning interior aesthetic.

Throughout the apartment, IQ Glass supplied and installed a series of bespoke fire-rated steel doors and oversized slim framed steel glazing systems, delivering both exceptional performance and timeless design within this prestigious London residence.

A Contemporary Interpretation of Heritage Design

The design of this luxury Mayfair duplex carefully balances the architectural heritage of its Grade II listed setting with the expectations of modern high-end living. Led by MSMR Architects, the refurbishment adopts a contemporary approach that respects the building's historic character while introducing clean lines, refined materiality and light-filled interiors.

At the heart of the design is a striking internal courtyard, enclosed with bespoke double-height steel glazing that forms a dramatic central atrium. This architectural intervention allows natural light to penetrate deep into the floor plan, connecting the upper and lower levels while creating a strong visual focal point throughout the home. The courtyard acts as both a spatial organiser and a source of natural illumination, enhancing the sense of openness within the duplex apartment.

By combining bespoke glazing solutions with thoughtful spatial planning, the project successfully transforms a listed property into a light-filled luxury residence that celebrates both its architectural history and its contemporary future. The result is an elegant home where heritage, craftsmanship and modern design exist in perfect balance.

Respecting the Building's Heritage

The design takes inspiration from the Arts and Crafts heritage that characterises the surrounding Mayfair streetscape. The elegant steel glazing provides a contemporary interpretation of traditional metal-framed architecture, creating a sensitive dialogue between old and new.

Within the Grade II listed property, every design intervention was carefully considered to preserve the building's historic significance while introducing modern luxury living standards.

Luxury Living Across Two Levels

The duplex arrangement is centred around the glazed courtyard, creating light-filled living environments on both floors.

The upper ground floor accommodates the primary entertaining and living areas, while the lower ground floor opens directly onto the courtyard and houses the more private spaces, including the apartment's bedrooms. The central atrium ensures natural light reaches deep into the lower level, enhancing the sense of openness throughout the property.
