Brook Barn

Rural Barn Conversion with Slim Framed Sliding Glass Doors

The brief for this modern barn conversion was to transform and update the original barn building and create a garden office that could be completely merged with the outdoor environment in the summertime. IQ Glass installed slim framed sliding glass doors onto the new garden office and the frameless glass link that connects it to the rest of the home.

What is now the stunning garden was once a rural barn, which has since been upgraded using a combination of modern glazing solutions including glass doors with timber beams to preserve the original character.

We worked with architects Zac Monro on this modern barn conversion after they specified our ultra slim framed sliding doors. The combination of the oversized glass doors with the exposed timber detailing meant the property could be modernised and the functionality enhanced, thanks to the modern performance values, without eliminating the heritage of the converted barn.

It was important to encourage the maximum amount of natural light into the new garden office, to keep it well-lit throughout the day and enhance the living environment. Natural light is proven to enhance productivity and general wellness and this was perfect for a working environment.

The slim framed sliding doors are the perfect solution with vertical sightlines of just 21mm and large glazed panels to prevent any obstruction to light. Once opened, these sliding doors provide the perfect amount of ventilation in the warmer months and easy travel between the garden and office space.

The internal structure of this barn was kept as the homeowners wanted the new space to match with the rest of the home. The glass doors with timber beams provide the ideal contemporary addition to the more traditional home and allows the homeowners to relax and enjoy the sunshine in the summer whilst still being in a dedicated working environment, thanks to the broken plan layout.

IQ’s minimal window sliding glass doors were also installed within the new glass link, creating floor-to-ceiling glass façades either side of the modern barn conversion. These 2 track sliding doors have been designed with a connecting glass roof to maximise the natural light in the living area.

The structural glass roof is split into 5 panels, with slim steel joints between panes that have been powder coated in a light silver for a subtle design. An indoor-outdoor living space has been created thanks to the combination of the structural glass roof and glass doors with timber beams, allowing the clients to use their internal and external living spaces throughout the year, maximising the use of the patio and garden.

Our technical team are on hand to discuss combining glass doors with timber beams for an authentic and unique design.
