The Vitra Pivot has been in development for some time, mixing the slim sightlines of our minimally framed sliding glass doors into a full height window that can pivot open when required.
The finished design maintains all the neat detailing, slim profiles and integrated locking of our minimal windows sliding doors into a pivoting element that can reach heights of up to 3.7m and widths of 2.4m across.
Hidden stainless steel pivoting points allow the large glass element to move effortlessly within the holding aluminium frame. The pivot point of the slim framed pivoting window must be a minimum of 10cm from the closing edge of the opening but then may be moved anywhere up to the centre point for a centrally pivoted window.
The integrated aluminium thrust lever locking handle is easy and simple to operate, activating a two point locking device within the vertical sections with the simple turn.
Flush thresholds and a frameless open aperture are possible by hiding the head and base framing within the floor and ceiling. You can also integrate IQ’s flush threshold drainage channel to the external of the large pivot door if integrated drainage is required.
The aluminium framing of the Vitra Pivot is the slimmest possible in a thermally broken slim profile. The surrounding frames are as slim as 40mm with the aluminium frames able to be powder coated any RAL colour of your choosing.
A D handle design has been specially engineered for this pivoting window which merges seamlessly with the surrounding aluminium frame for a discrete finish.
We recommend that you include the optional self-closing mechanism into the slim framing of the Vitra Pivot. This hidden mechanism is hidden into the head frame of the pivoting door and also allows a hold open feature at 90 degrees.
Many of our specialist performance glass solutions can be used within the slim frame of the pivot door from low maintenance coatings to solar control glass . Speak to one of the team at IQ about your requirements and we can advise what is possible.
For a dynamic opening feature you can integrate these oversized pivot doors with our sliding glass doors of the same profile design. These can be used together in the same elevation of our slim framed sliding doors or can meet on a corner, sliding and opening away from the meeting point leaving no left over framing or supports.
These slim framed architectural glass elements are perfect for rear garden extensions, balcony doors or side entry to a building, IQ Glass do not recommend the Vitra Pivot for a front door on a house or a main traffic door on a commercial building.
IQ Glass can offer a selection of standard details for the Vitra Pivoting including the drainage base, framing and building connections.
All specific design and detailing for your project will be completed by our in-house design team once your order has been placed with us. You will then receive a set of bespoke details and drawings for your specific project.
We recommend that you opt to include our integrated self-closing mechanism in the head of the Vitra Pivot frame. This 50mm self-closing mechanism greatly increases the ease of use of these oversized pivoting windows and allows for a hold open position at 90 degrees.
You can find some standard technical details of our Vitra Pivot door, including the self-closing mechanism in the downloads section above.
The standard locking solution for the Vitra Pivot is the minimal windows two point locking handle. This integrated and ergonomic locking solution is easy to use and maintains the minimal design of these slim framed pivoting doors.
You have the option of including a D handle into your Vitra Pivot door which we do recommend in order to open and close these large pivoting doors with more ease. These handles come in a range of sizes and designs to suit and we can always create something more bespoke for you if required.
A ball latch for a more secure closed position is included into the pivoting door installation and an optional euro cylinder key lock is available. Even with this key lock we do not recommend that the Vitra Pivot be used as a front door or main access door.
Vitra Pivots are also available with an integrated glazing bar design. These flat aluminium glazing bars can be applied to the pivoting window in any design and configuration you choose to create the appearance required.
If you choose to have a glazing bar design this will reduce the maximum window size very slightly to 1300mm wide x 2440mm tall per door leaf.
The glazing bars are applied to the surface of the glass both inside and out. Inside the double glazed unit we include a dummy spacer bar which creates an authentic design to the glazing bars.
As standard we use glazing bars with a 25mm height. If you would like to explore using an alternative glazing bar size just get in touch with the team at IQ who can explore the options for you.
