Enhancing Glazed Extension in Hertfordshire
Located in one of Harpenden’s most sought after areas, West Common is a stunning glazed extension in Hertfordshire by Studio IA that merges contemporary design with the surrounding natural beauty. The design brief for this project required a strong focus on openness, natural light, and a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The homeowners were so thrilled with the finished result, they provided us with photos.
A defining feature of the project is IQ Glass's use of bespoke frameless glass installations where the the project incorporates slim sliding door systems along with structural glazing which offer effortless operation and ultra-thin sightlines. This feature not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures thermal performance, a crucial factor in modern residential architecture.
The property underwent extensive transformation, to preserve the historical character of the building, original materials like bricks from the demolition were reused, and features such as brick dentil detailing were integrated into the new design. Additionally, the project incorporated environmentally conscious elements.
The glazed extension in Hertfordshire exemplifies how thoughtful architectural glazing can transform a space. By incorporating IQ Glass’s innovative solutions, the property not only achieves aesthetic brilliance but also enhances the quality of life for its occupants.
