IQ Glass Working on Contemporary New Build in Guernsey

Written by Rebecca Clayton

luxury new build with a bespoke glazing package with slim sliding doors

This contemporary new build home in Guernsey, now in construction, features a number of high-end glazing systems to create an indoor-outdoor style of living. The expansive home follows a clean and minimal design, with exceptionally slim aluminium sliding doors that grant uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside and allow floods of light into the internal living spaces.

Multiple sets of minimal windows sliding glass doors have been used throughout the exterior design, bridging the gap between indoor and outdoor environments to allow the homeowners to enjoy the location from within the home. A mixture of two and three track configurations have been specified, with both moving and fixed panes as well as an open corner configuration.

The opening corner design creates a floating roof structure when the oversized doors are slid open, complete with a flush threshold for seamless travel between the two environments.

Where slim framed sliding door systems have been used above the ground floor, frameless glass balustrades have been incorporated into the designs to create modern and minimal Juliet balconies. The advantage of using glass balustrades here is that light and views can pass freely through the glazing, a feature that would not be possible if other materials were used.

In keeping with the minimally framed sliding door systems, slim framed aluminium casement windows have been used across the exterior design of the modern new build. The casement windows, from the Sieger range, are characterized by their sleek profiles that create a coherent design when paired with other glazing systems. Specially engineered apex roof glazing has also been used on the guernsey property, maximizing the natural light that enters the living space throughout the day.

Bespoke shaped structural glass panes have been designed to sit on either side of the pitched roof structure, creating a glass section within the traditional tiled roof. This roof glazing installation maximises natural light in the upper floor, a huge benefit for the occupants, whilst enhancing the overall building envelope by creating a continuous, highly glazed façade design.

This stunning home in the Channel Islands will be light-filled and airy, capitalizing on the rural location by incorporating oversized glazing systems. IQ Glass are ready and equipped to work on projects in Guernsey and Jersey, with project management teams set up to work on specialised projects in these locations.
