Self Build and Design January 2017

A House in the Garden Feature

IQ’s ‘ A House in the Garden ’ project was featured in the January issue of Self Build and Design as a 7 page spread.

The title of this article is ‘Get Smart’ with a subheading of ‘A new eco home, partly built into a hill in Oxfordshire, has been designed to embrace the latest smart home technology’.

This article is based on an interview with the home owners of the property where they discuss their visions of the home and the planning and building process.

This new build was an annexe to the homeowner’s parents’ home, which is a Grade II listed property. Due to the submersion of this property, glazing elements needed to be installed to provide the maximum amount of natural light into the home throughout the day.

Walk-on rooflights were integrated into the design to provide natural light into the rooms below and slim framed sliding glass doors , by IQ Glass , were installed along the fully glazed corridor along the front of the property.

These were installed to create indoor-outdoor living spaces and to provide natural lighting to the corridor.

The master bedroom also includes a set of sliding glass doors to provide access to the decking where the homeowners can overlook the stream. James Barratt (homeowner) mentioned IQ Glass in ‘The Final Word’ section of the article where he was asked, “Your biggest extravagance?” to which he replied, “Probably our glazing, supplied by IQ Glass , but it was well worth it.”
