The stunning contemporary replacement dwelling known as Sand Dunes has once again captured public attention, this time as the star location in ITV’s gripping new drama, Playing Nice. Featured in a recent Mail on Sunday article, the five-bedroom coastal property in Mawgan Porth is praised for its iconic seafront setting, breathtaking glazing, and award-winning sustainable design.
Designed by ARCO2 Architecture Ltd, Sand Dunes was carefully crafted to harmonise with the surrounding Cornish landscape. Spread across three buildings (a main family home, a guest annex, and a pool house), the property is constructed from locally sourced materials and incorporates reclaimed Cornish stone and slate as well as timber cladding. Large, minimally framed sliding glass doors (supplied and installed by IQ Glass) are integral to the home’s contemporary aesthetic, enhancing natural light and connecting expansive interior spaces to the dramatic coastal vistas.
We first celebrated Sand Dunes in our previous editorial mention when it was featured in The Times magazine for its outstanding sustainable architecture and luxurious family living. Now, the Mail on Sunday spotlights its latest claim to fame: a starring role in Playing Nice. In the series, Sand Dunes doubles as the imposing seaside residence of on-screen villains Miles and Lucy, brought to life by an ensemble cast including Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown-Findlay and James McCardle from Mare of Easttown.
According to the article, ITV chose to rent Sand Dunes for filming because of its striking combination of modern minimalism and sweeping ocean panoramas. The property, rumoured to have sold for over £4 million, is set to be offered as a holiday rental for £5,000-plus per week; no doubt attracting guests eager to experience the cinematic intrigue and luxurious coastal living for themselves.
