The structural design of the Red Bridge House at Sweethaws has been nominated for the Structural Awards 2014.
With cantilevering balconies, the banked ground and unique shape the family home included some complex structural designs to ensure the contemporary building worked well with the architects proposed designs.
The minimally framed sliding glass doors surrounding the lower ground floor swimming pool sat below a large hung balcony and can only take a live load deflection of +/-5mm so the structural designs to projects such as these have to be specially designed to allow for these small tolerances.
