Porthmadog House - Wins 2026 RSAW Welsh Architecture Award

IQ Glass is pleased to share that Porthmadog House, designed by Ström Architects, has won a 2026 RSAW Welsh Architecture Award. The project was recognised as part of the RSAW Awards 2026, which celebrate architectural excellence across Wales.

Set on a sloping coastal site in North West Wales, Porthmadog House is a replacement dwelling with expansive views across the estuary towards the Irish Sea and Snowdonia. The design responds carefully to the exposed landscape, balancing openness and shelter through a composition of grounded slate volumes and a rotated corten steel form above. Locally sourced slate connects the building to the geology and industrial history of the area, while the upper level is positioned to capture wider coastal views.

IQ Glass was proud to contribute to this award winning home with large-format structural glazing and expansive glazed openings that define the central living spaces. Positioned between the more enclosed slate-clad elements, the glazing brings natural light deep into the interior and frames the dramatic coastal setting with minimal visual interruption. The result is a calm, refined living environment with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

The architectural approach combines robust materials with precise detailing, creating a home that is both visually striking and well suited to its exposed location. The overall material palette has been selected for durability and long term performance in a demanding coastal climate.

We are delighted to see Porthmadog House receive this recognition and congratulate Ström Architects, Milliner Construction and the wider project team on this achievement.
