Grainhouse shortlisted for Institute of Structural Engineers Structural Awards

Grainhouse, an innovative and sustainable architectural project, designed by Barr Gazetas Architects has recently been shortlisted for the prestigious Structural Awards by the Institute of Structural Engineers. This recognition is a significant achievement, highlighting the project's excellence in structural engineering, design innovation, and environmental sustainability. 

This project included a number of different glazing solutions from IQ Glass such as windows and doors, however the main feature of the project will be the specification of a glass atrium  Allowing for substantial amounts of natural light into the building.

The team at IQ worked closely with Barr Gazetas Architecture, to create a glazing package that met the project’s design needs as well as performance requirements. A fantastic mix of Secco and Jansen, steel framed fire rated doors, have been integrated to provide the cohesive design required.   

Grainhouse is an exemplary project that seamlessly combines traditional architectural elements with modern engineering techniques. Designed with a strong focus the building was originally an agricultural grain storage facility, which has been ingeniously repurposed into a contemporary living and working space. The transformation preserves the historical essence of the original structure while integrating state-of-the-art engineering solutions. 

Sustainability was a core consideration throughout the Grainhouse project. The use of high-performance glass by IQ Glass contributed to the building's energy efficiency, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling. The glass used in the project was designed to maximise insulation while allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building, reducing energy consumption and enhancing the living environment. 

Whether this project takes home the top prize or not, this is a remarkable achievement, showcasing the visionary work of IQ Glass and the entire project team in transforming an old grain store into a modern architectural masterpiece.
