Grade II Listed Rhodes House Shortlisted in Wood Awards 2024

Rhodes House Glass Pavilion Grade II listed, an architectural masterpiece located in the heart of Oxford, has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2024 Wood Awards.

Praised for its cutting-edge design by Stanton Williams Architects, with craftsmanship and sustainability the pavilion stands out as a contemporary landmark in the world of timber architecture, seamlessly blending modern aesthetics with environmental responsibility.

What makes the Rhodes House Glass Pavilion a standout project is its commitment to sustainability. Timber has long been admired as one of the most sustainable building materials due to its renewable nature and ability to store carbon. Stanton Williams embraced this eco-friendly material, using sustainably sourced wood that adheres to strict environmental standards.

Rhodes House Glass pavilion is characterised by its minimalistic design and open-plan layout. The transparency of the glass allows the surrounding gardens and landscape to flow seamlessly into the interior, providing an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries between the indoors and outdoors. This glass and timber pavilion provides a ‘garden room’ for scholars and the public to meet.

The Wood Awards 2024 is one of the UK's premier awards, recognizing excellence in architecture and design that uses wood as a primary material, and continues to highlight the transformative power of timber in architecture and design.

The winners of the 2024 Wood Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony later in the year, this prestigious recognition will further cement the winners' place in the landscape of British design and architecture.
