Won Home Extension of the Year category in the British Homes Awards

Gauden Road won Home Extension of the Year in the British Homes Awards!

Gauden Road, also known as the Clapham House, designed by Kaap Studio Architects won Home Extension of the Year in the British Homes Awards! This award honours many aspects of residential architecture, from one off houses and extensions to major residential developments.

The home extension of the year category was awarded to Kaap Studio Architects for the innovative extension to a seven-bedroom house in Clapham. The brief for this project was the help connect the terrace home with the rear garden and increase the influx of natural light within the existing spaces. The architects opened up the internal spaces to create a seamless transition into the new glass extension at the rear of the property.

The glass extension was designed using minimal windows sliding doors, a glass roof and a casement door which led the occupants out into their beautiful garden. The minimal windows sliding doors were designed as two sets of 3-track sliders installed to both sides of the central aluminium casement door.

Due to the design of these terrace homes, the extension was built to the ground floor level which to the rear of the property looked raised thanks the sunken garden leading to the basement rooms below the extension. This layout gave the extension an almost balcony style, therefore IQ Glass installed frameless glass balustrades within the tracks of the sliding doors to add a protective barrier when the doors were open.
