Creating a Highly Glazed Contemporary Home in Warwickshire

The architectural concept was centred around natural light, modern performance and a strong relationship between the interior and garden. Generous glazed openings were used throughout the property, combining oversized sliding doors with slim aluminium windows and structural glass to create a consistent contemporary appearance across the building envelope.

At the centre of the home, an industrial inspired staircase sits within a double height glass atrium. Together with the south facing windows, this glazed space draws natural light deep into the plan and creates a dramatic focal point within the interior. The project demonstrates how architectural glazing in Warwickshire can define the character of a luxury new build while supporting light, openness and everyday comfort.

Bringing Natural Light into a Double Height Interior

One of the main design challenges was bringing sufficient natural light into the centre of the substantial new build. The double height space surrounding the staircase required glazing across both levels, creating an atrium that would connect the internal layout visually while also contributing to the external appearance of the home.

The glazing needed to provide a clean, contemporary finish without introducing visually heavy framing. It also had to deliver suitable thermal performance across the large glass area so that the atrium remained comfortable throughout the year.

Coordinating Oversized Glazing Across the Building Envelope

A second challenge was coordinating the range of glazed systems used throughout the property. Large sliding doors, structural glazing, slim casement windows, glazed doors and the main entrance all needed to work together as one architectural package.

The design also required wide openings to connect the internal living spaces with the garden. Slim framing, flush thresholds and large glass panes were therefore essential to maximising views and creating seamless transitions between inside and outside.

Structural Glazing and Slim Sliding Doors for a Light Filled New Build

IQ Glass used Invisio® structural glazing and a structural glass roof to form the double height lightwell around the central staircase. The thermally broken system creates a highly transparent atrium that brings daylight into the living spaces and adds a distinctive glazed feature to the exterior.

Slim sliding glass doors were installed in large configurations to maximise views and connect the internal spaces with the garden. Flush threshold details create smooth transitions outside, while slim aluminium casement windows and a glazed casement door continue the contemporary design across the wider property.

A high security aluminium entrance door was combined with a fixed glass screen and shaped glazing, creating a bright entrance while meeting the security and performance requirements of the home. Together, these systems show how architectural glazing in Warwickshire can combine oversized glass, thermal performance and coordinated detailing within a luxury new build.
