Award Winning Glass Extension in London

Designed by HUT Architecture the extension and renovation works to Dalston House included the addition of a brand new highly glazed extension to the rear. The two “slick black boxes” to the back of the house were a key element of the architectural design.

The expansive use of glass within the structures draw in natural light to the rear living spaces and new staircase which leads down to an open plan basement.

A large structural glass roof was designed by IQ to create a window to the sky for the larger and longer of the two glazed boxes. In keeping with the black metallic design theme, a slender steel section was used to support the frameless glass roof which spans over 4m in length.

At the rear elevation, the structural glass roof meets a set of sliding minimal windows which form the patio access doors to the extension. With sightlines of only 21mm and a flush threshold detail, the minimal windows sliding doors were perfect for this installation, making the most of the small aperture available within the glazed extension.

Further light is brought into the extension with the inclusion of a frameless structural glass ‘letterbox’ window to the side of the extension.
