Modest Rear Refurbishment

Small extensions or refurbishments benefit hugely from an introduction of more natural light, making the space feel brighter and larger.

On this small refurbishment project designed by Holland and Green IQ Glass designed and installed all the rear specialist glazing including aluminium bifold doors.

Above the sink, the IQ designers engineered a 3D, frameless window box to sit above a partial height wall. By using strong structural glass units with a strengthening interlayer the top roof of the glass box was able to be partially supported by the vertical glass units to create a fully frameless appearance with no visible steel supports or framework required.

The 3D glass window box allows multi-directional light to enter the space at various times of day, flooding the kitchen area with natural daylight.

To the side in a small opening IQ Glass installed a set of aluminium bifolding doors. The doors have a minimal 120mm vertical frame to make the most of the small opening and slide open to reveal an almost 90% clear aperture.

This access route to the small patio garden benefits from a flush floor finish across the bifold door frame to the external patio step. The three-panel configuration of the bifold doors allows for the use of an independent pass door within the system for easy access to the garden when needed.

The aluminium frames were finished with a silver metallic appearance which compliments the internal kitchen design.
