Homeowners and architects wanted to create their dream home in Kensington on a small plot of land at the end of a private mews.
The design created a modest continuation of the mews with a massive and spacious basement space below. The challenging build process was documented in the 2011 series of Grand Designs.
Slim framed sliding glass doors from IQ Glass were a focal point of the rear above ground elevation, filling the entire rear wall of the kitchen and leading out onto the garden spaces.
The three pane installation was finished silver and created a flush floor continuation from the internal living spaces to outside.
In the basement space, these minimal windows sliding glass doors were used again to surround the basement fish pond.
Mixed with frameless structural glass the slim framed sliding glass doors created a glass box within the basement around the fish pond used as a light well into the subterranean space and master bedroom, allowing ventilation when the sliding glass doors are open.
Elements of structural glass were well used as a frameless roof over the staircase to the basement, glass balustrades and as rooflights throughout the home.
Various other elements of architectural glass were used throughout the build including aluminium casement windows and decorative glass elements.
