Glazed Extension in Buckinghamshire

The glass was a key component of this highly glazed house extension in Chorleywood, Buckinghamshire. The family home needed more space, needed more light and a better connection to the garden.

By utilising specialist glazing within the extension the homeowners were able to achieve all their goals.

Two sets of minimal windows® sliding doors were used to the rear within the staggered wall.

With their slim aluminium frames, the sliding doors offered great views out onto the garden, maximum light in and the flush threshold meant the transition from inside to out was seamless.

Internally the fixed aluminium outer frames of the slim framed patio doors were hidden by the plasterboard. Outside the house, the extension had a brick external finish. Here the aluminium frames were finished neatly against the light brickwork, creating an interesting contrast in colour and texture around each aperture.

In the small return between each minimal windows® elevation a fixed aluminium casement window (part of our Sieger® range) was used.

The aluminium framing was powder coated to the same RAL reference as the minimal windows to create a cohesive design. Again, the internal aluminium profiles were covered with the internal plasterboard for a frameless internal design.

To bring more light in from above a slim and frameless clerestory window was used above all the ground floor glazing. This high-level glazing was designed from structural glass to ensure that the small aperture contained as much glass as possible.

Two large-format fixed rooflights sit within each section of the glazed extension, bringing even more light into the highly glazed room.

The roof lights were created with the use of structural glazing to ensure the roof lights were completely frameless. Inside, all you can see when you look up is glass and sky.
