Using Glass Sliding Doors to Maximise Living Spaces

IQ Glass designed and installed opening corner glass sliding doors onto this new build in Surrey to enhance and maximise the internal living spaces. These corner opening sliding doors allow the homeowners to merge the inside and outside environments, creating the perfect indoor-outdoor living experience.

Having an open corner allows the two walls of glass to be pushed back, providing greater access to the outdoor living space and maximising light, space and ventilation in the summer months. Two sets of sliding glass doors were installed to create the corner configuration, both creating a floor-to-ceiling glass façade for a modern exterior design.

The exterior design is split into two parts, with a wooden clad extension meeting the original pale brick house on a corner. The slim framed sliding doors are used across both parts of the dwelling, creating a link between the two and working to combine the two contrasting parts.

The clever design of a continuous flooring between the kitchen, dining, living spaces and the outdoor patio creates a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor areas when the slim framed sliding doors are opened. The doors are complete with a flush threshold detail, creating safe and easy travel between the living spaces.

The exceptionally slim 21mm aluminium framing helps to maximise the natural light in the living spaces as well as maximising the views of the garden for the family to enjoy from indoors.

The aluminium framing has been powder coated a light grey, contrasting with the dark grey framing on the windows on the upper levels of the home. Choosing a light grey for the door frame helps to enhance the bright spaces on the first floor.
