Since the barn was exposed to the elements, wind loading calculations were required to be carried out for the oversized glazing to comply with building regs. The uneven sloping ground would also prove a challenging installation for oversized minimal framed sliding glass doors and open corner.
The wrap-around glass façade makes for most of this rear glass extension seamlessly opening the entire space with the opening corner sliding doors (often referred to as a ‘floating corner’ or ‘open corner’ ) offering a flush threshold of 20mm.
While it was important to maintain and enhance the original charm and character of the barn, linking the old with the rear glass extension would need to provide a modern functional flowing open space with maximum natural light ingress enabling views that could be enjoyed by its occupants.
Our minimal framed sliding glass doors with the slimmest sightlines were installed drawing in plenty of daylight allowing for uninterrupted views of its stunning rural surroundings.
The IQ Glass technical team worked closely with the architects to realise the rear glass extension design transforming the ground floor into a haven for home dining and family entertainment.
