This 9,000 square foot Eco home in Yorkshire had multiple architectural glazing elements designed and installed by IQ Glass. This new build included minimal windows sliding glass doors, frameless glass balustrades, aluminium windows and frameless windows as well as a glass link.
This double height glass link made up of minimal windows sliding glass doors and fixed curtain walling sections join the building together in the centre. The curtain walling sections were integrated above the sliding doors to mirror the slim framing.
IQ’s minimal windows glass sliding doors were installed around the home for access to the living spaces and for their slim framing and contemporary aesthetic. These step-free sliding doors provide ideal access to the garden as well as balcony access on the upper floor. As well as access, these doors provide natural light ingress into the living spaces and ventilation. The slim 21mm framing of these doors enhances the natural light and reduces any obstruction to views of the outdoors.
Each of these sliding glass doors was installed with a biparting configuration to increase access space between the indoors and outdoors. These doors have helped to create an indoor-outdoor living space by merging the terraces with the internal spaces. The kitchen diner can be merged with the external garden space where the homeowners are able to use the extended space, perfect for family gatherings and summer parties.
Frameless glass balustrades were integrated to create safety barriers internally and externally for the homeowners. Internally, these balustrades were used in the hallway on the second floor of the home where the glass link had been installed. This small hallway with open sections on either side maximises the downstairs space and allows for both levels to be naturally lit throughout the day. Using frameless glass balustrades internally, allows the natural light to flood the space with no obstructions. These balustrades were also integrated into the stairwell to create a clear bannister.
Externally, frameless glass balustrades were integrated into the terraces to enhance the safety of the homeowners when the terrace is in use. By installing frameless balustrades, natural light can pass through into the home with no obstruction to light or views from inside. A stainless steel handrail was integrated into these balustrades for a continuous contemporary design.
Aluminium windows were also installed throughout this new build with the same slim framing as the doors to create a seamless design. These windows were installed to enhance the natural light intake at the front of the home. A frameless window was installed to allow the natural light passing through the glass link to enter the corridor to the other internal living spaces.
