A contemporary home extension and renovation using architectural glazing

An awkward 1930’s house was transformed into an open plan, light-filled family home in Richmond.

The large detached home benefitted from an internal renovation and rear extension to create larger and brighter living spaces, merging the internal living areas with a newly landscaped rear garden.

IQ Glass designed and installed all glazing to the modern rear elevation including the large sliding patio doors onto the garden, the slim framed sliding glass doors on the upper floor; the flush glazed opening windows and aluminium casement door as well as the fixed structural glass roof lights.

The combination of different window and door types was designed to be cohesive using the same powder coated RAL colour to all aluminium framing and a dark grey back painted external face to the flush glazed Innovare windows on the upper floor.

A three-pane sliding glass door system is the focal point of the rear elevation. Made from IQ’s minimal windows system the aluminium sliding door has only a 21mm vertical frame with a frameless finished surround. When the doors are slid open the floor finishes are flush inside to outside, with all necessary drainage cleverly hidden in the base tracks and drainage blocks below.

This type of minimally framed sliding door helps merge the internal and external living areas when the doors are both open and closed.

These minimal windows sliding glass doors were also used as slim framed sliding windows to the upper master bedroom.
