Bedford Gardens

London Extension with Mirrored Guest Wing

This home in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea was originally a home and an adjoining mews property which were demolished to create a single luxurious family home whilst retaining the historic façade of the 19th Century house.

The new family living room and kitchen now overlook a carefully designed courtyard garden through slim framed glass sliding doors, designed, manufactured and installed by IQ Glass. These doors provide a contemporary aesthetic as well as providing the home with great amounts of natural lighting.

This natural light intake is increased by a large structural glass roof that has been installed onto the kitchen. For a cohesive design, minimally framed glass sliding doors were used mirroring the design of the original house onto the adjoining mews property.

Glass balustrades were also installed onto this property allowing natural light to flow through into the family home and provide uninterrupted views of the courtyard garden as well as providing safety for the homeowners on the stairs down to the basement.

The adjoining mews had also been re-built in a contemporary style providing ancillary accommodation with a new 300sqm basement below. This basement accommodates a swimming pool and spa, family media room, a formal entertaining space and also includes a second ‘catering’ kitchen, large staff flat and plant and utility rooms.

Walk on glass floors have been incorporated to maximise the natural light intake into the basement. These floor lights have been sandblasted, providing privacy for the basement level but also still providing perfect amounts of natural light in.
