The Old Vicarage Modern Glazed Extension

The Old Vicarage project completed by IQ Glass, a modern glazed extension recently featured in I-Build magazine is an inspiring example of how sensitive renovations, can merge traditional architecture with modern design. Located in a historic village setting of Worcester, this grade II listed project has revitalised a Victorian-era vicarage, giving it a fresh lease on life while preserving its heritage.

The renovation, led by the dedicated team of architects from Herlig Architecture, transformed this residence into a luxurious yet comfortable modern glazed extension. A configuration of three opening Sieger slim sliding doors were installed to the rear of this modern glazed extension offering ventilative cooling to the new family living space, along with Sieger casement doors which sit within a further glazed casement window which match the height of the casement windows at 2.74m tall.

The inclusion of slim-framed sliding doors is one of the most visually striking features of The Old Vicarage. These doors use ultra-thin aluminum frames, which provide structural integrity while maximising the glass area. The result is an unobstructed view and the feeling of a continuous glass wall that can be opened to create a seamless transition between the indoor living areas and the garden. Slim-framed doors are a popular choice in modern glazed extensions and architecture as they enhance both aesthetics and functionality, which is why they were a perfect choice for this design.

The magazine article feature emphasises the creative interior redesign, which artfully blends antique and contemporary elements and praised the project as an exemplary model of sustainable heritage renovation, thoughtfully chosen materials and eco-friendly techniques.

The Old Vicarage is more than just a renovation, it is a testament to the transformative power of modern glazing technology. Through a strategic use of glass walls, slim-framed sliding doors, and frameless systems, this modern glazed extension stands as an example of how thoughtful design, combined with cutting-edge technology can revitalise historic structures to meet contemporary standards of living.
