Architects Journal Feature Stonecrop - a Highly Glazed New Build Project

The sustainable new-build home was recognised for its unique architectural qualities.

One of our highly glazed new build projects was recently recognised and featured on Architects Journal, as a case study. IQ Glass worked with Architects Featherstone Young on the highly glazed new build, which was split into two wings to accommodate the homeowners (a couple) and family and friends that frequently visit them.

The expansive home was 347 metres squared, designed with a faceted green roof to allow the large home to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. On the south elevation, we installed slim framed sliding glass doors in a pocket door configuration, granting balcony access at multiple points.

The aluminium framed doors are exceptionally slim, with vertical sightlines from just 21mm, and have a flush threshold detail top seamlessly merge indoor and outdoor areas when the doors are slid open. Pocket doors are configured to slide invisibly into hidden wall cavities when open, leaving a completely open aperture for the two environments to be merged.

The dynamic build utilised a number of modern glazing systems to achieve a truly unique build, including shaped structural glazing on the south elevation. The sliding glass door systems, with their slim frames, match the minimal glass design across the entire elevation for a cohesive finish.
