Residential £1-2.5 million (project by value) in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2019

Old Quay Shortlisted

Old Quay has been shortlisted in the Design Et Al awards in the Residential £1-2.5 million project worth category. Old Quay is a new build project located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Initially, this project sought to revamp an existing building into a more contemporary family home, however, due to the flood risk that the property possessed they were unable to fulfil this desire. Therefore, the homeowners (working with Gillespie Yunnie Architects) took on a whole new task of designing a brand-new home that overcame the risk of flooding.

Even though the location threw many obstacles at the homeowners, they still wanted to make the most of the incredible scenery and views of the River Yealm that they originally fell in love with. The architects ensured that large expanses of glazing were utilised within the design of the property, including fixed structural glazing and large format sliding doors.

The winner of the award category will be announced later on in the year.
